September 2008 Edition                                 37th Publication Year

September Membership Meeting – September 18, 2008 7 PM – Knights of Columbus Hall Fitchburg

Officers and Board of Directors

The Ski Club opens our 37th season with an Officers corps that has some old friends and some new talent.   Bill Cocci has returned as President of the club and is supported by last year’s President John Crotty as VP to bring consistency to the corps.  New officers are Bill Bruce as treasurer and Cheryl Foley as secretary.

The Board of Directors also has seen some changes and new faces.  Returning for their second year of service to the club will be David Anderson and Gary LaBell.  Jo-Ann Altieri has moved from her position as secretary from last year to a board member this year.  New members are Bob Leger and Dave Reynolds.

Please wish them well and support them in any way possible to make this club function smoothly for the upcoming 2008-2009 ski season.

The Annual Club Outing

The club had another successful and fun filled outing at the Swedish Social Club on Lake Wymans on August 16, 2008.  I was unable to attend the outing due to other commitments but from my discussions with other members who attended it was a blast.  The food was as good as it always is, the social club has a special way they cook the chicken and they will not share how they get that special flavor.

There was the usual raffle.  The Cardboard Boat Competition was resurrected from previous years and I understand it was a hit and it was hilarious.  Here is a picture to refresh the memories - The good ship USS Bonhomme De Neige (English – USS Good Man Snow) captained by Lucille Cormier.

Mount Wachusett GPS Season Passes

The Wachusett Mountain GPS Season Passes are now available to buy online or through the clubs GPS Coordinator Doris Clow.  The prices for the pass are $479 for Gold, $259 for Silver and $199 for Bronze.  Please purchase your season passes through the club since the club does benefit by getting free season passes that we raffle off to add funds to the treasury that offsets bus and fuel charges for our single day and weekend trips.  Contact Doris at 978-342-0273 or online at dec145@aol.com.

Connecticut Ski Council Bulk Ticket Purchase

One of the benefits of this ski club is we are a membership club to the Connecticut Ski Council (CSC).  The CSC, through the purchasing power of many, purchases bulk lift tickets to select New England ski resorts for significant savings and offers these tickets to its membership clubs and their members.  This offer has a one-time only purchase window between September 9, 2008 and October 8, 2008.

Jack McCarthy is coordinating the program once again for the Montachusett Ski & Snowboard Club.  Jack has requested that all Bulk Ticket purchases be received by him no later than October 8, 2008.  Fill out the form, enclose your payment and send both items to Jack as described in the instructions.  Please address any questions about the Bulk Purchase Program to Jack (978-827-6648 or EMAIL jmccarthy@net1plus.com.  Follow link to purchase form:   http://www.montachusettskiclub.com/Trips_2007/MBT.htm

Three Day Weekend Trip to Sugarloaf ResortFebruary 5, 2009February 8, 2009

Kathy Coulson is actively planning a great excursion to Sugarloaf, ME for our three day weekend.  The ‘loaf’ has always been one of the club’s favorite destinations.  As you may have noticed by the date the Board of Directors has chosen to run this trip in February since the week trip was scheduled for later in March.  This is your standard package to Sugarloaf and includes all the normal stuff.  Follow link to flyer:  http://www.montachusettskiclub.com/Trips_2007/Sugarloaf.htm

Day Trips for 2008 – 2009 Season

The day trips have not been selected yet.  The Board of Directors will wait until the CSC has announced the Skier Appreciation Days list of participating ski resorts and will select the days based on the list.  The club has found that days off this list are less expensive than group rate pricing at the resorts.  Stay tuned.

The Month of May is Membership Renewal Time

Please remember to pay your dues during the month of May. This allows the club to place deposits and secure locations and airline seats with ski areas and or travel agencies for next season’s trips, which must be done during the summer months. Thank-you.

After the first Club meeting, all weekend trips and the week trip will be open to non-members. So, members if you are thinking about going on any trips make sure you contact the group leader or leaders of your desired trip, make your deposit payment and get signed up. Otherwise you may lose out, the trips are filling fast.

Notice to all people signed up for trips, please make your payments on time according to the payment schedule set up by the trip leaders. It’s hard enough organizing the trips, let’s not make the trip leaders have to chase after your money, too.  If you don’t make your payments according to the payment schedules, you may lose your spot on the trip to the next person on the waiting list.

Any news or comments to be put in the newsletter, please contact Don Pierce mmadonpierce@comcast.net or 148 Phillips Street, Fitchburg, MA 01420. Please send me your e-mail address to receive this newsletter by e-mail, it saves the club money on postage & printing, and it saves me a lot of time.  Thanks, Don
